When the end of the semester was rolling around I decided to look for a summer job, although the one I got is not seasonal.
I applied to an add I saw on Craigslist where it said make $17 an hour. I was ecstatic about that. I applied right away and got the job. My job is a "supervisor, a security guard, and a manager". The problem is I don't have anyone to supervise, and there is nothing to manage. I am working as a parking lot attendant/security guard/manage for a parking lot that is out in the middle of no where. Literally.
Like, my job is out in the middle of the dessert. It's a parking lot with nothing else but a little office for me to sit in. No one comes to park in it or even drives by it. The nearest thing to me is a closed down Shell Gas Station that I pass on my way here about 14 miles down the road.
I have been working here since the last week in May and not one single person has even driven by the parking lot let alone come to park in it. When I was hired I went to an office in the nearest city and the only people that spoke English were my boss and the person who hired me, they rest were speaking some Eastern European language. My boss said he would be out every day to check on me, but he never comes out. He calls me on my cell phone once a week and asks if there have been any incidents and then says okay and goodbye. My paychecks get deposited directly into my bank account. I have never once seen anyone else who works here in the parking lot. My supervisor frequently calls me and asks me if I will work a double shift and get paid time and a half. He says the other person called out sick or they had a family emergency or whatever.
This is the weirdest thing in the world to me. I am watching a parking lot that no one knows exists. Is this weird? Am I working for some covert illegal operation or something? I really like the job because there is nothing to do so I can get a lot of school work done but I am afraid something sinister is going on.
