i received this through text message:

"you don't know me or my people, play with fire bet you get burned"

and this person and i have recently had a falling out and i am genuinely concerned about what this text means and i am thinking about going to the police.

so would this text be a threat, harrassment, menacing, or neither? and if it does fall under one of those categories, what would police do?

  1. document it and report this to the police..keeping good documentation with haressment cases will prove your case in court..are you receiving more of these kinds of messages..just one message is not considered harressment..but does sounds like a threat.

  2. police would probably do nothing about it if you two had been fighting.  if it will make you feel better, file a report if they will even do one for it, but I would just quit talking to that person and if they continue to say things like that after, I'd go to the cops then.  the most they cops my do is issue a tro-temporary restraining order.

  3. Yes, it appears to be a threat. However, without some actions to back it up, a police investigation will likely end with just a warning.

It is not yet harassment. That is defined as a continued course of conduct. It will take more than once incident before you can claim harassment.

I would save the text message, in case it continues.

  4. Go kick the persons a** and that will be the end of it.

  5. it's not a treat it's more of a movie quote but you can't do anything about it unless the person actually burns you, keep the text as a reference to any harmful act that you encounter from that person or persons that you can prove are known personally by the person that you fell out with

oh yeah and as for me i would confront the person and say let's get it on and dual to the death but that's just me i don't scare easily i'm a lover and a fighter.......holla

  6. It is both a threat, "play with fire and you'll get burned",  and it is also harrassment, in the fact that person left a text message for you after you have broken off contact with them.

If you are very concerned about this most definetly file a report, especially if this person is known to " have a few screws loose".
