Question:

Is this a valid e-mail sent from Amazon Marketplace, or did I get scammed?

I made a purchase two weeks ago on Amazon Marketplace, not having ever used it (I prefer eBay honestly) so I don't know if the following e-mail is legit or if I got scammed. The reason I'm asking is because it's been two weeks and I haven't received my product, and I'm getting worried. Anyone who has experience with Amazon, please help. Thanks.

Safe Shopping Tips

Amazon.com works hard to protect our customers. For your safety, when

ordering items advertised by sellers other than Amazon.com:

* Always place your orders directly through the Amazon.com shopping cart

using Amazon Payments. Never send money directly to sellers through wire

transfers or checks; we do not guarantee such transactions.

* Beware of e-mails that request direct payments, request payment to

international locations, or ask for personal information. Amazon.com will

never e-mail you to pay for Marketplace transactions outside our shopping

cart, or ask you to confirm personal information such as a credit card

number or password via e-mail. If a particular e-mail looks suspicious or

unusual, please contact us directly.

Reporting suspicious activity at

marketplace safety and serve you better in the future.

Amazon Payments has charged your credit card for this purchase, and

the funds have been credited to your Amazon Marketplace seller. On behalf

of the seller, sellerhere@aol.com, we thank you for your purchase.

The seller has agreed to ship by 13-August-2008. This message serves as

advance notification of your shipment--most sellers will NOT send a

separate shipment confirmation.

Your order will be shipped via the standard shipping method (usually

regular surface mail). The arrival expectation is 4 to 14 business days.

In some cases, this may take 21 business days or longer to arrive. If your

shipment does not arrive by 31-August-2008, please contact the seller to

check the status of the shipment. Your seller should provide the same

level of customer service you expect from Amazon.com.

QUESTIONS?

  1. Yes, this is legit.

It's just providing a transaction summary for your reference. These types of communications are normal and expected. This is the electronic equivalent of a receipt.

If it were asking you or pressuring you to provide information about you or your account, then you should become cautious. This particular email is not asking you for a thing, so it's safe.

  2. I'm glad you asked this question. I ordered a dvd for the first time tonight on amazon and i got the same email as well word for word. Good to know its not a scam. From what im reading, its not.
