Experts have found a way to trigger an out-of-body experience in volunteers.

The experiments, described in the Science journal, offer a scientific explanation for a phenomenon experienced by one in 10 people.

Two teams used virtual reality goggles to con the brain into thinking the body was located elsewhere.

  1. Yes this is a valid explanation of a OBE experience. The drug induced state featured in the book DMT: The Spirit Molecule by Rick Strassman is another valid explanation.

However, both are experimentally induced conditions not directly comparable to spontaneous experiences.

The experiments also fail to explain to account for people that obtain accurate information at a distance while having this out of body experience. So, there may be a difference between an out of body experience and an actual out of body event. I would say further research, especially along the lines of information gathering and possible detection of the projected body, would be needed in order to create further hypothesis for testing and certainly no conclusions can be drawn about OBEs based on the current research.

  2. How can you recreate that kind of experience in a lab?

I understand the reasoning but surely if there is a "true" OBE then the situation, feelings, mental state and individual upbringing/circumstances should be taken into account.

  3. It is, at least, a scientific one (that will need additional testing).  This is an enormous advantage over explanations that had been offered earlier.

  4. Poppins is a 1964 American musical film produced by Walt Disney, based on the Mary Poppins series of children's books written by P. L. Travers and illustrated by Mary Shepard. Songs in the film are by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman. It is rated G by the MPAA, G in Australia and U in the United Kingdom.

  5. Maybe just another way of inducing OBE

The reading list below can act as a source for you. Most of the titles can be found in your local library. If they don't have them they can borrow them from another library.

  6. That's some exciting research. It would seem to be very applicable to the unconscious/dream state in which most reports of OBEs seem to happen.

  7. my grandma had a miscarriage and almost died and had an out of body experiance while she was in the hospital she doesnt remember it as much but she saids it felt soo awsome and no pain in her spirit

  8. I've seen that article before, and I'll give them a A for their effort, but they are so way out in left feild with those tests. There really isn't anything to do with where you vision is at that even relates to going out of body. I do it every night (have had friends tell me I've come to them, so it's been validated by others outside of myself). And TBH, I'm usually asleep when it happens, as your body needs to be aligned corrently in order to do and return to your body, and my spirit guides help me with this by making me a bit sleepy. Though I have woke up twice during going in body--one morning I woke up but couldn't move (as I said, your body needs to be arranged, and so your physical body will be temporarily paralyzed while you're out of it) and one morning I laid down beside myself and look right at me. Kind of weird. lol

But no... it's really not very accurate for what I've felt and what I've had described to be by others whose had an OBE. It's more a state of mind, like a deep paralysis, and it involves quite a lot of trust and belief (if you don't believe you can do it, then you simply won't).
