Is this actually the right way to sprint?

Is what shown in the middle panels actually a valid method to sprinting? I understand the concept of pushing against the ground but the whole 90 degress thing is confusing. Like, once you push off the ground, do you end up with your toes pointing downwards, and your bottom leg/ foot in 180 degrees. Or is your ankle at a constant 90 degrees and you kinda just spring off your foot? (I know this is just a comic but its pretty fact based and actually fairly technical)

  1. Don't listen to that manga because its old fashioned.  The new better way to run sprints is you lift your leg with your hip and bring your leg up.  Then drop with your hip with your forefoot hitting the ground first.  Then tap your heel on the ground a push off with your entire leg including your calf.
