i'm thinking/planing on buying another pair of lovebirds...i already have 2 lovebirds pair in a cage and they are currently having eggs right now.only a full week is needed for them to hatch since the first day they laid the eggs...and i'm thinking of buying another pair to start an aviary.i'm doing some research about it but none says it's advisable of inadvisable to have another pair while you already have a brooding pair.is that okay?please tell me.if not, when can i buy a new pair?after the babies are born?before that?a month or so?please tell me....

i'm a first time breeder but i'm doing all i can to make everything go okay for the lovebirds.please answer.

  1. yeah sure why not

  2. you would be probably safe in purchasing a new pair.. It is always good bird husbandry to separate new arrivals from existing birds... I would house them in another part of the house for at least 30 days to make sure there are no diseases .  Then gradually introduce them into the same area that you have the breeders in.... you don't want to upset your breeders that you already know produce for you.

  3. First off you never move new birds in with your birds when they first come to your home. You need to put them in quarantine for 4 - 6 weeks. MINIMUM then  you could put them in a aviary. You can not put two pair in one cage. You can put three or more but not two. One pair would become the dominant pair and they would actually starve them out. If the cage is big enough you can flock breed them. I would recommend breeding them in individual cages. That way you can band them and will know who is brother and sisters or how they are related. It is important if you are going to raise them.
