Is this allowed to do with my carry-on luggage?

According to that web page, do you think I'm allowed to pull out my laptop out of my backpack, and take the backpack on board as a standard article and take the laptop WITHOUT any kind of cover on board as a personal article?

  1. Sure, but I'd recommend having a case for your laptop - otherwise, it might get a bit banged up from being carried around all day.

    EDIT: Oh, I see what you mean! Yes, that's allowed. You might want to put a sticker with your name on it on the corner, or tie a ribbon around it - lots of laptops get mistaken at security, so just make sure you know it's yours.

  2. I fly Air Canada all the time and I can assure you that they don't consider the laptop to be a separate item just because they want to x-ray it separately. They don't count your shoes separately either, even though most North American airports want to x-ray those, too.
