Question:

Is this an abnormal basal body temperature? Need help!

I miscarried almost a month ago and am now beginning to chart so I can have an idea of when I can expect my period. I just started this morning however my temp. this morning was 96.4 and when I took it this evening it had dropped again to 96.1. Everything I read has said I should expect to see temps between 97.0 - 97.7. Could this very low temp mean I am ovulating right now? Is it normal for it to be that low?

  1. First let me say that I am so sorry that you had a miscarriage. I had a miscarriage in may so I know what you are going through.

As far as the temps go, that may be normal for you. I had some low temps, like 96.8 I think was my lowest. Your temp during the day or night doesn't matter, only take your temp as soon as you wake up in the morning. When you are ovulating your temp will drop and then shoot up after.  You should check out a site called fertilityfriend.com . You can enter your temps and they will help pinpoint when you ovulate. Have you had your first period yet? Mine took 45 days to show up. I think it can take up to a few months for your period to come so ovulation can happen at anytime.

Good Luck and again I am sorry.

  2. The reading is too low.  I would buy another basal themometer.

during the 1st half of your cycle, your temp should be 97.0 to 97.8.  Once you ovulate, it jumps up to 98 or higher and stays there until the day of your period when it drops down again.  You know that you ovulated when you have the jump in temp.  And the ovulation is a day or two before the jump in temp.

  3. It could be a normal temp for your body, that's why your temps are hard to go by on the first month.  I am now in my second month of charting and discovered I don't get much of a temp drop when I get my period.  Just keep temping and see how it goes.  You should only take your temp first thing upon waking, before even getting out of bed.  Don't take it again during the day, it will only confuse you!  Best of luck, sorry for your loss, I too had a miscarriage in March and I know how it hurts.
