is using someone people to get ahead considered as deviant behavior (in the context of a student in UC Berkeley)? my professor ignores email contact, and i dont really feel like calling him to ask...

my term paper is based under the sociological imagination etc. and how "using people" would potentially give me a deviant label etc...

so do you think i could use "using people" as a deviant behavior topic?

  1. Deviance is a form of rebellion... meaning, "deviating" from socially accepted norms.

    I wouldn't.

  2. I would say yes.  Like someone else suggested, that is associated with sociopaths.  If you look up antisocial personality disorder, that is one of the major symptoms.

For the sake of your paper, I would carefully define what you mean by "using people," and specify that you are referring to the act of shamelessly using others with no little to no consideration of how their actions affect others.

A lot of people "use" others, but when taken to an absolute extreme it (in my opinion) becomes socially deviant without question.

  3. Not normal...be on the norm

  4. Check the definition of a sociopath.  I think this behavior is that definition.

  5. I should think using people is the ultimate act of conformity is this society.
