Soo, I've been watching so you think you can dance and Im absoulty obsessed, I would love to be able to dance contemporary (also know as modern, I think) but I dont know If im too old? Im 15. My dream is to audition for so you think you can dance when im 19 or 20. Im a figure skater so im pretty flexible and lean and in good shape if that helps. Is contemporary hard? Is it expensive? Whats your opinion on it? :) Thanks,

Heres a video of what i'd like to be like:

  1. it takes lots of commitment. you have to really want it. 15 is not too old! sure you will be a little bit of a "late starter" but no one really cares. i love modern! its my all time favorite. its not to expensive but you have to pay for costumes, classes, shoes, tights, pictures, rehersal time, competition fees, convention fees, car trips to competitions, and unfortunatly no time for friends. after schoo, i walk to dance and then dance from3:00-8:00 EVERY SINGLE DAY. SOMETIMES i get a weekend off.

becoming as good as this girl would take all of this and more.

  2. it depends if u have any dance experience she has been dancing for almost most 17 yrs so its going 2 be hard to dance as good as her unless you are a natrual born dancer fexibilaty has nothing to do with it  nd it depends on were u leave if you leave in the philadephia area u could go 2

    PCD progressive center for dance

    philadanco

    LnL

    Simons dance program

just message me for the adress

  3. It depends how much you want it, and how far exactly do you want to go in the competition? It would defiantly not be easy. Most of these dancers by the time they're your age already have so much strength.

Like watch this person he's 15---->

Im not trying to scare you, I'm just getting things in perspective.

Sure, it's possible. Though serious contemporary dancers train for at least 30 hours a week. And those classes cost a lot of money.

I agree that would be awesome to dance like that

Just what are you willing to do to be able to?

  4. :) I have the same dream.

Don't worry, you're not too old. Trust me.

I've seen a guy on a dance TV show, not SYTYCD, who impressed me by saying he only started dancing a year ago! He was about 30.

    Contemporary is NOT hard.

(it's know as lyrical, not modern.) That is wonderful you're fleible, because in contemporary you might need a little flexibility for leaps and stuff.

Though I know you want to audition when you're young, I suggest, don't. Because if you're starting at 15, it's better to audition at like 25 or something so you have had more experience and hopefully your technique will be better if you've been dancing for longer.

    The expense varies.

The closer your dance school is to your home, the better.

If your parents don't mind, while you're at it, I would do ballet or jazz or acro or something too to help you. I suggest acrobatics, it always helps if you can do a trick or two!

    That's good you've been skating, it'll help.

Hope I helped and best of luck I've ever given to anyone, I really hope you can fulfill your dream.

    DD xx
