I take ballet so I'm starting beginner tap for my first time tomorrow. They didn't hand out any sheets on what we should wear so I figure I'd probably get an answer from yahoo answers. We didn't have time to buy tap shoes we will probably buy them like at the last minute or maybe later. So, incase I don't get tap shoes by when class starts tomorrow what should I wear on my feet? Because in ballet if you forget your shoes you just go shoeless so I don't know. So, for tap class I was basically planning on wearing my leotard and pink tights and some shorts and maybe a tight t-shirt? Does that sound okay? What do you think I should wear? Any answer will help thank you.

  1. my sister just wears jazz pants and a tee shirt to her tap class. although other kids in her class wear leotards and tights. just wear what you're comfortable in. as for shoes, go bare foot but bring some shoes (like your ballet ones) just in case your teacher doesn't want you bare foot. that way you'll at least have something even if it doesn't make noise. it's just the first class so if you wear something wrong they can't really get mad at you since there wasn't a handout telling you what to wear.

    best of luck :)

  2. Ive taken tap twice now,and tights arent realy nessacery, especialy with a begginer class you wont be doing anything extreem so i would say maybe some knee length sweat pants, you know the cut-off ones with the strings that tighten at the bottom? And a for the top just a shirt you would be comfortable moving around in. Maybe if you have taken ballet, then you might feel more comfotable in the clothing you said you were thinking of wearing so thats cool to, but just a warning, in my experiance begginers tap dosent call for extreem clothing, just comfortable. And about the shoes,

do you have jazz shoes? if so those would probably be best, with the harder soles. if not, i would suggest going barefoot, but if you arent comfortable with that then just were some good street shoes and test em out first to see if you can tap in them, (my converse have served me well in the past!) hope that helps, good luck! :)

  3. I think that all sounds great.  You might bring your ballet shoes in a bag just in case your teacher doesn't want you barefoot, then at least you have something.  But barefoot should be okay for the first class.  Usually the first day is about getting to know each other, learning the rules, and maybe a few beginners steps.  Sometimes I've been to classes where the first day, all we did was stretch and exercise a little bit while getting to know the teacher.  You should be fine!

  4. Are you a dude or a chick?

  5. Yes, Tap is tremendously less formal than Classical. What you plan on wearing is fine.

For shoes, do you have a pair of character heels already? Or what about your jazz shoes? Or just wear your slippers.

If you are really stuck, just wear the hardest soled , yet flexible  shoe you have.
