  1. Black goes with every single color, so you can't go wrong with the saddle you have.  If you want to add some color, try deep green and burgundy.

  2. You mean over the years he's turned brown or just over the summer?

If he's consistently brown-er over the years, he won't get darker again, but if it's just summer bleaching you can feed something like "Black as night" which is a natural supplement that helps keep dark horses dark.

Black saddles are becoming easier and easier to find, but still not as easy as lighter brown or walnut colored ones.

It depends on what you're doing with him - if you're just riding him around on the trails, who cares what color the saddle is if it fits him right and he likes it?  If showing, I think Arab saddles are usually dark - I work at a tack store and we have trouble getting dark color show saddles unless they are custom ordered and then quite expensive.

Saddle fit and function should be most important - color 2nd - but if you're a rich person who can afford to buy one at a moment's notice who cares - find one that fits him that you like and buy it.

  3. it depends how young he is i had a horse at my barn who was a liver chesnut, but over the coarse of his life he turned g*y almost albino

  4. its not bad that he changed.

if hes outside, hes just bleaching out.

    it happens to many horses.

you can get supplements to try and get him back to black if you really want, but im not sure if i would want to use them.

  5. I don't see the point of the saddle matching the horse.  Will you buy a new saddle every time you buy a new horse?  What if you get a grey horse?  Saddle color is not as important as saddle fit.  If it fits you and the horse there is no problem.  If your horse was black before chances are he will be black again if you keep him stabled during the day and turn him out at lunch.

  6. Well what has made him change color?  My horse used to be black and white, now she's gray.  If your horse is still young, he could gray out.  Some dark horses get much lighter in the summer and darker in the winter.   And some horses get lighter in the winter and darker.  It's pretty normal for a young horse to change color, if he's older, it's probably from the sun..  I know there are supplements you can get for color, but I personally wouldn't spend money on them.

I personally think dark brown leather looks good on all horses.  So if you decide to get a new saddle look for "havana" or something.  However, I wouldn't rush to get a new saddle unless your current one is falling apart or doesn't fit you and your horse.

  7. Don't worry about him changing color, it is very common for young horses to change their coats completely as they get older.

  8. they don't have to match!!!!

how old was he when you first got him?

horsey never stay exactly the same colour as when they are born but so much of a colour change i would say was a bit strange

but if you think about lippazaners they are born black or dark brown colours but turn pure(ish) white

i wouldn't buy a new saddle un;less it was nessisary as they are expencive but if you can sfford it or sell your old one

    he won't change back

but a matchng saddle woould look great :)

  9. How young was he?  I used to work for a woman who purchased a Lusitano gelding (very young), and as he got older he turned from a dusky gray to a very handsome buckskin.  So that is normal.  As for the saddle?  Black is neutral, and saddles are expensive, so try matching your blankets instead.  That way, if he is still in the process of molting out into his adult color, you haven't wasted a lot of money.

  10. Well it's the summer. Any animal will become a little browner because the sun dyes the coat. It will be back to normal by winter. Trust me on this one. I've seen it  happen with horses dogs and cats.

  11. Its not bad he changed, if he was young when you got him then that'd explain it, or the sweat and sun may have bleached his fur.

If you want a new saddle, get one, but personally i prefer black tack on a brown and white horse :)

His colour probably wont change back either!

    xx
