My SIL cut her brother out of the settlement when their mom died last year. Took ownership of their mom's mobile home and my husband never knew it until I saw it on the deed transfers. We let it go. Wasn't worth fighting over. Now, I see on the internet, that her husband died (we knew he was very ill) and her husband's ashes were stolen out of the car along with a pack of marlboros, in the K Mart parking lot some months ago. She never told us he died. so, I'm wondering if karma really exists and I wonder what you think.

  1. For your SIL or the dude who took them?  Can you freaking imagine opening them?

    Sorry.

  2. In Physics there is the Law of Cause and Effect, so yes Karma makes sense to me because every action always have a reaction.

But the Law of Karma is not  as simple as that in Hinduism and Buddhism it goes hand in hand with reincarnation beliefs; and depending of who you speak with there are different classifications of Karma and how and why it will manifest; but in a nutshell and trying to keep it short: there is neutral karma that will not have any consequences; there is immediate karma (self explanatory); and there is karma that will ripe at some point in the future, in this or some other of our lives.

In Buddhism the intention or motivation is what determines the Karma not the action itself; and as soon as the Karma (action) is commit what is left is what they call seeds, meaning the tendencies to do it  again or to experience it again; because you are cultivating that estate of mind.

Now karma only matures or manifest when there are the causes and conditions, for it for example, there are studies that some children that are genetically predisposed for violence; if they are not expose to abuse or home violence they will not grow into violent adults. Or the example most use a seed to germinate, needs proper soil, water, some sun, etc.

So when something negative happens is because there was the karma, the causes and the conditions. And  what you are experiencing might be the result of something you did in this life or in any past life; that is why sometimes in life we see bad things happen to good people and bad people getting away with their wrong doings;  because KARMA CAN ALSO BE GOOD, so the same above applies when something good happen to you, is because in this or other life you did positive actions.

The good news is that karma (tendencies) can be purified, by training our mind to be in positive estates, and practicing compassion for ourselves and others. And ultimately if you really train your mind you can get free of all karma and therefore you will experience suffering no more.

So when something bad happen to people even if we think is fair, we should also feel compassion, because the worst they act, the worst is the suffering they will experience in this life or another; and they don't understand it.

    I hope this helps.

  3. No, I don't believe in karma. Have you noticed bad things happen, even when you do good deeds? And sometimes when you do bad things, good things happen?

Good and bad things happen to EVERYONE. Just because you do more good deeds doesn't mean more good things will happen.

I like to use this as an example: Pat Tillman. Gave up a multi-million dollar contract to play football, just to help support our troops and our county. He went enlisted in the US Army. (Good deed, right?) And what happens in Iraq? He gets shot...by his comrades. That's right, friendly fire.

Osama Bin-Laden: Leads a group of terrorists responsible for many deaths in foreign countries.(Bad thing...)And we have absolutely no idea where he is. No one has tried to give us any information.

If thats not proof that karma doesnt exist, I dont know what is.
