Is this because my guitar is really bad?

Well I've been playing for about two weeks, I know its not long at all but this acoustic guitar I'm using doesn't sound good at all. I got it when I was 8 and it was 30 euro which is like $20. I'm getting a new electric guitar tomorrow and I was just wondering if it will sound alot better seeing as I'm spending about 250-300 euro. Also is 10 watts enough for an amp in my room?

  1. Well, I would assume that a 20 dollar guitar sucks...

If your buying one. Buy it for at least like, 200 dolars so that it could sound decent.

  2. get a better acoustic to learn on. You will feel the benefits when you move on to electric

  3. Electric guitar is almost always easier to play than acoustic. I have a feeling that a cheap acoustic guitar can contribute to the poor sound as well. There's no guarantee that you'll sound like John Frusciante just because you have an electric guitar, but it should sound better.

  4. Amp: look at the Vox AD15VT and Roland Cube15X. They're the cheapest amps that are good.

Guitar: Consider an Ibanez RG<something>. GRG is the cheaper version, I'd skip those if I had the money.

Or an Ibanez AS73. Bit more than your budget but very very nice (though maybe not as suitable to your intended style, but that style is irrelevant when learning to play).

  5. 75 watts for a small amp.

and yeah you pretty much get what you pay for with guitars. You can find good deals. for example I bought a guitar for 450 USD and it sounds great. I have been playing it for 6 years and it gets better with age. good luck.

  6. Do you know what kind of guitar you want?  What type of music do you intend to play?  Do you have small hands?  Give me as much information as you can. Using my 35 years of experience of guitar playing I'll try to steer you in the right direction.  Also be sure to buy an electronic tuner.

  7. Well, usually you get what you pay for. If your first guitar was only 30 Euro that chances are the guitar wasn't the best quality which definitely will effect the sound of your instrument. I'm almost positive you'll have better sound and more fun on your new guitar. A 10 watt amp is not very loud but if you're only looking for an amp to practice on and not tour Europe then a 10 watt would be fine. Have fun and good luck!
