Is this bedding alright to use for my guinea pigs?

Hi, I use kiln-dried, dust free, cedar shavings for my guinea pigs.

I know aspen are the best kind you can get for shavings, but this bedding is kiln-dried, and my guinea pigs don't appear to be allergic.

Is this safe for them?

  1. Kiln-dried or not, I would avoid Cedar at ALL costs. It's just not worth the risk.

It's not that small animals are ''allergic'' to it, but it can damage their health very easily.

  2. Ok, my opinion is don't use it if they say it's bad. No matter what form it's in or who makes it. The damage may not be physically seen yet on your guinea pig. Aspen isn't the best kind to use, either. I use CareFresh It's the best one out there. So, try that instead.

  3. even i f it says "kiln-dried" or "dust free" Cedar is still not good for any rodent type animal.Aspen is the #1 choice for rodents.its less dust and most likely wont cause respiratory system problems.Or liver problems. So i would go with aspen if you want wood shavings. If you want something better that's not wood shavings.Use care fresh its safe recycled newspapers compacted into little bits.It comes in a variety of colours.Tan,Pink,Light blue, and some others.its probably the best.and the hamster will love it.You should find it at pet stores.Hope i helped!

  4. even being kiln-dried and dust free all cedar shavings are bad! and already if u know that it causes respritory problems why would u use it?

well most of the time people would think that the cedar shavings are bad! but many people arent even aware of this dangerous problem! well no one knows everything so the people from the rescue might no alot about theese cute little animals but maybe they didnt no about this!

so id reccomend calling the rescue to tell them the riscks and dangers of thei bedding!

    cedar and pine isnt safe!

    i hope this helps!

  5. Yes, please oh please do not use any type of cedar bedding. It can cause inkury to them - their feet etc. plus can cause respitory infection. Please change the bedding to newspaper until you can get proper bedding.

If you are not going to head our advice and warnings, why did you post this question asking for it?

    CHANGE THE BEDDING.

Rescue places do usually use what is best, but when they can't afford it they have to use what they can. Just because they are using it doesn't mean it is the best.
