I came across a rather big beetles on my office chair, about 5 inches long excluding the long feelers. it looks something like this (http://eny3005.ifas.ufl.edu/lab1/Coleoptera/Carabid.htm), but brown in colors with some patterns of big red and orange dots on the surface. I couldn't find the info of it on the internet, but the things is, is it poisonous? I'm worried that the poison will be on my chair now.... help~

  1. Many beetles are brightly colored but few have toxic properties.  The darkling beetle looks like the one pictured, the ground beetle, and can have  red marking on the elytra. Both the darkling and the ground beetle emit a foul smelling liquid.  They both are sometimes referred to as stink bugs.  A genus of the ground beetle called the bombardier beetle ejects what looks like of cloud of smoke with a pop.  It can irritate tender skin. Otherwise the other beetles fluid just smells bad.

  2. Most beetles are not poisonous, but I wouldn't worry. If it excreted poison onto your chair, which is pintless and unlikely anyway, it would not affect you unless you actually consumed it or took it in to your body in some other way. If you really are concerned, just go and clean your chair, or if it is cheap, get a new one. However, you should be just fine.

  3. It's a tiger beetle, and no it's not poison to a human :)

  4.   Most spiders are poisonous  beetles are not.

  5. Even if it were poisonous, your chair is not going to effect you in any way.  The beetle would have to have direct contact with you.

    Relax and have a seat.
