My 11 (almost 12) year old cat has started having trouble jumping onto my bed. He jumps almost on to the bed and then has to pull himself the rest of the way up. He also has been going up the stairs very slowing and carefully, not limping, but it appear that it is difficult for him. He just started this behavior in the last two weeks or so. Is this normal for his age?

  1. My cat, 13 years old has the same problem. I think she has arthritis in her hind legs. That's probably what is wrong with your cat too.

  2. In a sense it is normal. Make sure you keep him inside so he can't get hurt. He also might have a vitamin deficiency, so make sure you're feeding him the right kind of food or if you have to, give him supplements for his bones. Just love him to death and he'll be fine.

  3. Take him to the vet just to be sure nothing serious is going on.  Even if it is arthritis, the vet might can give him something to ease the pain a little.

  4. Not really. He may have arthritis but if this suddenly came on, he may have other internal pain. He should be seen by the vet and have a full blood and urine panel done as soon as possible.

  5. maybe arthritis?

  6. At that age, your cat is probably just starting to slow down. He may have arthritis in his legs, making it harder for him to move. Take him to your vet for a check-up and see what kind of medicines they may have to help him move more comfortably. Hope your kitty feels better!

  7. omfg! liver cancer i think what food is it aaaaaah! what kind of food does he eat its all China's fault(no offense to Chinese)thats how my 1st cat died

  8. It really depends.  For your cat, it's just normal aging.  If it gets really bad, though, take your cat to the vet.  Don't be ashamed if it gets worse!  You must be a great owner if he's lived that long!  Keep taking good care of your cat!
