Is this being unfair to the British?

I was watching tv the other day about immigration in the US and I saw this British guy complaining. Apparently a lot of people are trying to leave the UK for other countries, which I didn't know. Anyway, he wanted to come to the US but was denied a visa. He was single, has a bachelor's degree in computer science, spoke english, and had some money saved up to make his new life in America. Apparently the US gov't has an immigration policy that seeks families, rather than individuals, and they want diversity, not white people from Europe. The gov't official interviewed also said that Canadians and Europeans were less desirable because many of them come to the US for a few years, then return home. Someone from Asia, Latin America, or Eastern Europe comes with their entire family and stays for life. Do you think this is a fair policy? Does the UK have a similar policy on immigration? It just seems to me that we should be accepting the most qualified people that want to come here rather than just the first non-white person that shows up with a family of 12.

  1. I agree he could be of some use to this country, and the people here! What does accepting a family do for this country?

  2. I agree, that is unfair.

I was part of an interview process for new teachers at my school and it this reminded me of that. There was this guy who we interviewed and he mentioned that he was planning to become an administrator or something and apparently that tipped the other teachers off that he would just be staying for a year or two instead of for an extended stay. Coincidentally he was one of the more qualified candidates but they were looking for someone who would stay longer, probably so they wouldn't have to interview people year after year.

Maybe the paperwork is too much of a *****. :D

  3. I'd heard that to get into the USA to work, you had to have a job lined up that they couldn't find an existing American to do........that's what a friend who is from the UK and now lives in the USA told me, so apologies if it isn't true.  But I thought they went more for what your job and qualifications were than your ethnic background or family status.

In fact, wouldn't a single person be more likely to integrate well into the country than a family?  They'd probably meet a partner over there and maybe settle down and have their kids there, whereas a ready made family wouldn't integrate by marriage until the kids were older.

  4. "most qualified people that want to come here rather than just the first "non-white person" that shows up with a family of 12." josh? thats racism.. i think it answers ur question. by the way!!!... that aint the UK policy of immigration

  5. to tell you the truth the US doesn't just accept the first non white family of 12- people risk their lives from all over the world, in my knowledge many from mexico and south america- trying to get into the US. they go through major hardships to come over and many people die. i think it's a lot easier for a British person. he should just get married or something i guess.

    ---Totally dude. I so agree.

Go watch the movie "Under the same moon"

maybe then you white people will understand something.

  7. Oh, how sad. The poor British. You have a great country, you don't need to migrate. People from countries where they can't earn enough money to feed their family need to come here. They strengthen our economy with their ambition and add to our culture with their diversity.
