My boyfriend's dog just pooped in the house....again. It is partially solid and mostly slimy looking. The slime looks like there is blood in it...and it's not necessarily a small amount (not little flecks...but globs of it...a large portion of it is this slimy red goo) it's kind of a bright brick red. We took a routine stool sample to the vet just a few days ago, and haven't heard anything yet but I'm wondering if I should have them look at this. We haven't noticed this before. Oh and I can't do anything about it today because the vet is already closed.

  1. call the vets office and use the emergency number left on the recording.  he could have eaten poison or something

  2. I would call the vet immediately!  Blood in the stool is a sign of a serious problem, more so when there is "globs" of it.  Even though your vet may be closed there are the ER clinics.  Don't risk the dog's health by waiting.

    Droolz for the sick puppy to get better soon!

  3. There are several reasons that your dog might have bloody stool.

    -Your dog might have cancer;

    -Your dog might have eaten something really sharp which is cutting him/her internally;

    -Your dog might have internal parasites;

    -Your dog might have a viral infection;

    -Your dog might have a small intestine problem; or

    -Your dog might be suffering from an anal sac infection.

    -If your dog has bloody stool, rest assured that there are steps you can take to help your furry friend overcome this ailment.

    You might want to look closely at the amount of blood because a few drops is ok;

    -You might want to stop feeding your dog bones;

    -You might want to be proactive and not allow your dog to sniff other’s p**p;   or

    -You might want to make sure that your dog is properly hydrated when you go on a hike or long walk.

    If none of the above remedies work then you should consult your vet to see what exactly might be causing the problem.

    Good luck. Lets keep our fingers cross that it's nothing serious. I don't think you need to take a sample of the blood-like stool because the Vet will be able to trace what's wrong with the sample provided.
