I just bought a barely used bicycle from a co-worker whom i trust. She said her adult daughter bought it for about $300 then only rode it a few times. i saw the bike and it's in great condition i took it for a ride and it needs a tlc from just sitting in the basement but its nice the bicycle brand is raleigh can anyone tell if that is a good brand or a crappy brand. i am doing city riding like three days a week and the bike that i have had since college about 10 yrs ago a wal mart huffy bike just is in rough shape

  1. It's in the eye of the beholder....If it rides better than your old huffy it's a better bike than what you have.  Raleighs have been around a long time, not the best, but very far up from the bottom and in no way crappy.  If it's in good shape go for it.

  2. You should definitely get a good bike lock for your new bike.  A great place to get them is A&J's. Their website is http://www.bike-locks.com .

  3. my raleigh has so many miles on it i couldnt even guess.  it has been there and back a few times, so yes, in my opinion they build a great bike.  they arent flashy or fancy, but they are good, basic bikes and will be light years ahead of your department store bike.

  4. Raleigh is a very old British company with a Stirling reputation.  In the dear, dead, days of my youth, a Raleigh conferred almost mystical properties on the owner.

These days, Raleigh makes a full line of products from kids bikes, cruizers, mountain bikes, to road bikes, etc.  They pretty much cover all price points, as well.  Which means you can buy some low cost products in discount stores.  You can also buy some sweet machines in high end bicycle stores.  As far as I know, most current Raleigh bikes are made in Asia.

My suggestion is to ride and enjoy your new bike to the utmost.  I am sure it will last many years and give you a great deal of enjoyment.

    Hope this helps.

  5. When I was a kid, all I ever wanted was a 3-speed Raleigh. I delivered newspapers and cut grass until I had enough money to get a Phillips, which was essentially the same bike at a lower price. I thought I could ride straight up a wall in first and could go faster than a car in third. I loved that bike and rode it all over the eastern half of Massachusetts.

The Raleigh name appears on a number of different bikes now. You didn't say what you paid for the bike, but it sounds like you got a good deal. Just ride and enjoy it.
