I am most likely getting a Teddy Bear Hamster (syrian hamster) real soon. I was wondering what you think of this cage.....

http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3164304&keepsr=0#RatingsDetail

If you don't like this cage please give me other recommendations. I really want to get the best cage possible. I want to get one for under $30 but if that isn't possible i can go up to $50. Thank you!!!

PS......please NO mean or rude answers!

  1. I'm not a fan but purely because I have had to change cages recently due to an accident prone syrian. She broke her rib by falling from the roof, where she liked to hang.

I will come back with suggestions.

Edit: No hamster cage is perfect, I've looked through what petsmart has on offer and they all seem a touch too small/tall. I have the next one along from this now http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.js... I'm not sure what I think of it in some respects (a pain to assemble) but my hamster loves it now she's in it. You can also extend with these. So, if you get a bit more money and want to spend it on your pet, you could get another wing. This ensures they don't get too bored as change is really good for them. Plus, it'll keep you amused!

  2. I had a teddy bear hamster once.

    The cage seems fine. :)

lol, when I had my teddy it chewed up the wall.

Also, a tank would be a good choice too, so the hammy wouldnt

chew on the bars of the cage

    .

  3. I think that cage is way to big! A two story cage is fine.

    This one i like alot.

a little hard to put together though..

and vacume out the shavings....wayy easier

    more sppace is not better!

  4. I have the exact same cage for one of my hammies. If it likes to climb, then it will love that cage. One thing about this cage is that everything falls apart all the time. You have to find some twist ties and secure all the pieces together (i just used twine) including the ladders so they will not fall off when the hammie is playing. I have also tied up some tubes that connect each level so she can get to each level faster and of course more fun. I personally hate those running wheels in that cage because again, they're pretty flimsy and loud. I took a long twist tie and hung a silent spinner wheel from it and left one crappy wheel in there too to give her variety.

I do love this cage for the tray that pulls out so you can clean the bedding. I would not keep the metal wire rack on the bottom level because its not good for them to walk on as it can hurt their legs and feet. To spoil your hammie even more, place some thing on floors the two upper levels to help the ham walk easier. I cut up rectangular pieces of fish tank wall paper as 'carpet.' You can ask someone at a pet store for it. It works perfectly for their little feet and plus you don't even have to secure it down. :D

  5. Teddy bear hamsters are smaller than regular hamsters so I'd get a smaller cage. I think the cage was a bit too big, unless you get 2 hamsters!

  6. thats a great cage i have a teddy bear hamster his name is hammy [full name hamtaro]!:D

  7. thats a nice tall big cage but the bad thing is if the hamster falls off it will hurt itself but other then tat its good and cheap

  8. Your hamster wont be able to climb up those wire ramps get this cage it is the BEST cage i have ever had

  9. Ummm...Not for me because i wouldn't want MY hammy to fall a couple feet. They cant judge height so he could fall off.plus the cage bars could hurt its feet.He could get injured in that cage from:Falling,Damage of feet, feet fall into the bars,Chews on the cage bars.I wouldn't get it just because of it falling and hurting its feet.Good luck! PS:lots of people think those cages are so cool because its 3 stories and has 2 wheels. But i care about my hammy not the style of the cage.Good luck hope i helped!

  10. ya sure i don't own hammys but i own gerbils and they would lov to have that nice of a cage but it is a little tall i would recomend a one or two level cage i have a gerbil who does not even go on the top level because they do not need that many levels also they will chew up the plastic parts

  11. That cage is fine and i like the purple.

I've just bought a cage exactly like that one as a play house for my hamster, because i found that in my cage there just wasn't enough floor space for it to run around. So in my opinion the more floor space the better.

Just a note though if your hamster is anything like mine it will gnaw on the bars and be rather noisy.

So if that's the cage you really like you should go for it, you've clearly done your research.

  12. You probably want like a two level cage with more floor room I found with my gerbils they didn't go on the 2nd level much and a third won't make a big deal.

    hope I helped,

    -Kate

  13. yes that cage should be wonderful...loads of space to run around and play

  14. i have had many syrian hamsters , and started of with a cage like that , i personally dont like them, the sawdust cums over the edges easaly and makes a mess, and there isnt much to doo in them , i supose you could get some toys etc, but i strongly recomend rotastak cages , there are lots of different typs you can get and with thu tunels they are morre like there natural habitat, they also have life long lasting wheels , and most have a bottle and food dish and wheel combined with the cages , they are very sturdy and last and look good to, hope this helps

:) .. p.s  the pods from thu range have bars , which are good for hangin treats on as well as for the hamster to cheww for there teeth. and you can add and change all of thu parts .

  15. this looks awesome.

  16. that cage looks nice..i can see why u like it....but honestly, i think its too tall...i think u should get a cage where its only 2 stories and its wide so it has a lot of room to walk around...and plus, it might fall and hurt itself.  i saw also that one of ur commenters recommended the cage where its two stories but it has a lot of plastic tubes...i wouldnt recommend that because ur hamster might grow real big and feel suffocated while going in and out of tubes. i had one who had a difficult time going in and out. so hopefully that helped..good luck!
