I've been looking for cars for months now and my limit was $8000 and I really didn't want anything with more than 80,000 miles and newer than about 2000 and 2001. I've been looking at vw's because they last a long time and hondas and toyotas are too expensive. My mom got a call from a local dealer we were at recently and it's a 2001 vw cabrio and has 113,000 miles. My mom went to go look at it and says it's in excellent condition. It's also just under $6000 and according to kelly blue book it's worth almost $9000. Originally I wanted a jetta. I know a lot of people say bad things about vw's but I don't know what to do anymore. I don't have a lot of money to spend, my mom's getting mad, and I'm running out of options. What should I do? HELP!!

  1. No.. VWs do not last a long time.. They are lemons, the lot of them. You can get a 2001 Honda Accord Coupe for around 8K, a 2003 Civic EX for around 8K, and a 2003 Toyota Corolla S for around 8K.. All with about 80K miles.

  2. Mileage is not of importance if the car in question (not a VW, of course) has been taken care of.

Likewise, a low mileage car that has never had an oil change is a disaster waiting to happen.

Go buy a cheaper car with just over 100,000 miles on it if you must.

I bought one at 209,500 and rode it to 284,000.  It was a 94 Ford Ranger that resides in Mexico now.
