  1. There's one of two possibilities - either he's lying or he's an idiot. There is no way it will get better mileage with a supercharger than it will without one. If you are light on the throttle most of the time the difference won't be much, but if you use that extra power a lot, your mileage will decrease significantly.

  2. all i can tell you is it depends. just because you increase the power an engine puts out, does not mean you will automatically lose fuel economy. it depends on how you use that power, where that power comes on, and your driving style. turbo chargers and superchargers when set up right can fatten up the engines torque curve, and in normal driving you can actually use less fuel with the same engine because you are not pushing the throttle pedal as hard to make the same speed or rate of acceleration. if on the other hand you try to drive like john force in his company car, you are going to get dismal mileage because you will be forcing large amounts of fuel through the engine.

another thing that affects fuel economy, especially in a forced induction engine, is the fuel curve and the timing curve. get those right with what the engine needs and you can gain fuel economy.

so does a supercharge or turbocharger improve or degrade fuel economy? best answer is it depends. as for getting advice from a car salesman regarding whether or not to pop for forced induction? i wouldnt unless that salesman was some one like don garlits who know the internal combustion engine inside and out. remember that salesmen know how to sell a product, but few really know the product. i can sell washing machines based on the company literature, but that wouldnt make me an expert on washing machines. i AM however an expert on what it takes to make power and fuel economy in the internal combustion engine.

  3. Short basic answer would be no, it would not.A super charger would create better engine preformance. For example  if you have a engine with  a I-4 with supercharger it would give you simular preformance(responce time) of a V-6.So if you we to go with the I-4 w/super charger you would save fuel by going with a smaller engine which would use less fuel than the V-6.Same senario with going with a V-6 or I-6 w/ super charger verses a V-8.You would have v-8 preformace while using a v-6.Hope that helps.GL

  4. A supercharger does NOT get you better gas mileage. That's like saying having a Turbo car means better gas mileage. Not true at all. Supercharger will increase engine power and you will burn more gas. It does make the engine more efficient with power handling, but doesn't make it more fuel efficient.

  5. Toyota sales people are well trained, but to get the most accurate answer call the service department and ask a technician.

  6. I think it does help the power of the engine by compressing more oxygen into the cylinders

  7. Unless you get a smaller engine with a supercharger vs. a larger non-aspirated engine, like a 2.4 supercharged vs. a 4.0 gas, then he is lying to you. It won't get you better mileage, it very slightly reduces it.
