Is this category for American Handball (against the wall) or The REAL Handball?

It gets so confused here in the US when someone says,"I play handball". It's really bad if you say,"I play Team Handball." They respond with,"How do you get all those people on that little court?" Anyway, please tell me which this is. Thanks!

  1. Actually when Yahoo added handball to the sports categories they had the team handball in mind. I base this on the fact when you go to some of the Yahoo international categories they have Germany, Spain, France, Sweden, and some of the other countries where the sport enjoys popularity.

That and the fact Handball (team) is played more then wall version of handball in terms of overall popularity. Not to mention it's an Olympic sport  has professional national leagues,  and a World Championships given the sport greater exposure.

In the English Yahoo -USA, Ireland, England, Canada, Australia , New Zealand, ...  -   team Handball is relatively unknown and most people confuse it with wall-handball as this is what people think of.

Not many people really even play wall version of handball in the USA anymore and I was told that even in Ireland where the sport came from it's not that big. In the Future I would just recommend clarifying this category by stating your ? is for Team Handball.  Or the Olympic version of handball.

Of course that still doesn't guarantee some people will be confused as I said before it's just not a sport people know enough about in English Yahoo.

  2. I'm not really sure what you are asking.

In America - handball is based on hitting a ball against a wall with your hands. You can have more than one person against one another, this is called Team Handball.

In Australia - handball is based on hitting a ball to another person with a set of rules. These rules live off the game so if you break them, it consists of game loss.

You have a square to play in [about 1 x1 meter for the size]. Then you hit it to your opponent, making the ball hit your square first. Then again - every country or state is different so I can't give you all of the correct information.

The game if hitting to ball against the wall with a raquet is called "Squash" and hitting ot normally with your hands against a wall is called "Wall War" and hitting normall to someone is called "Handball".

    Hope this helped. Good luck!!!
