If the package says use or freeze by 09/01 and it has only been one day past, can I still cook with the chicken?

  1. most of the times yes perfectly

usually use by dates are a wild guess.

there's no exact science occupied with determining use by dates

if it doesn't smell funny or is discoloured it's usually still fine.

  2. yeah

but don't eat it if it is yellow [that's when they have been sitting in their own pee]

  3. Yes I would think its okay but I would smell it and if it has a bit of a smell I wouldnt eat it

  4. yes once it is frozen the day is ok for several week,,, however once you thaw it the chicken must be used with a 24 hour window,,,,

  5. Give it a good rinse under cold water, then give it a good sniff.

If it doesn't smell bad, go ahead and cook it ASAP.

If it smells bad, throw it out.  Better to let chicken go to waste than to get sick.  Food poisoning is no fun, I know from experience.

  6. Usually yes, but your best tool to judge this is your nose. Turn the chicken and smell, if there is a bad smell don't go there.

"If in doubt throw it out"

but 1 day shouldn't be too bad.

Just ensure that you are cooking it well throughout, no signs of blood present once cooked.

  7. yeah you can as long as you cook it throughly so no blood or juices running out you will be fine you may also want to wash the chicken with some lemon juice to help kill of any smells.
