Question:

Is this common amongst asthmatics?

I've been having frequent attacks the past few days. I can feel the attack coming on b/c my chest gets really sore! When it hits, I gasp and wheeze like crazy. I will take my inhaler but it seems as if the attack has to work it's way out of my system until I start to feel the relief from the inhaler. Like it will hits its peak and then die down. I feel quite relieved when it's over. However, once a bit of time passes (sometimes minutes, sometimes hours) another attack hits full force again.

Is it common to have repeated attacks like that - even minutes after one has died down?

Also - is it common to have to suffer thru the attack, have it hits its peak and then die down, until you find relief?

  1. As I'm sitting here, I've had a pain in my chest for two days. Every time I inhale or sneeze it gets worse.... so believe me, I've had lots of asthma problems....

Use your inhaler once and hold your breath for as long as you can. One minute after the first puff, use it one more time. Don't use it over and over. It is a treatment, and not a preventive, inhaler, right? It doesn't work right away, but you should start to feel relief soon after the second puff.

To help your breathing during the attack, sit up straight or lean back like in a recliner and breathe as deeply as possible. It is also helpful to breathe steam or sip very hot tea or coffee.

You may have developed a reaction to some new trigger, or it may be the season or the weather conditions, or it may be some chemical that someone near you used in their yard. If your attacks are keeping you from eating or sleeping, you should consult your doctor.
