Question:

Is this considered a dangerous manuever on a CA DMV Drive Test?

I have been taking the drive test for about a few months now. I've taken it 5 times and seem to fail on different kinds of things; not stopping properly at a 2 to way stop, having 16 points wrong instead of 15, little stuff like that. I've never been the greatest at backing up but the driving instructors before I just took it for the 5th time haven't failed me because I couldn't back up straight. I just took the 5th test now and the guy automatically fails me because he said I tried 3 times in order to back up straight. Don't the drivers in the test get one free time to do this? If so, then it would take me 2 times. It's so funny because with my other instructors they let me go ahead when I couldn't and just docked off around 5 points.. not make it an automatic failure under driving manuever. Is this right for the examiner to do?

  1. I failed my first drive test because when I was told to back up, the lady told me to pull over to the side of the road, so I did, but there was a glass bottle about 15 feet behind me.  She told me to back up, so I did, I went straight but smashed the glass bottle, it made a loud sound, she freaked out and failed me because of that, calling it a "dangerous maneuver."

  2. It probably wasn't an automatic failure, but it probably was enough negative points to where you couldn't pass even if you had passed the rest of the test.  If you are failing each time for different things you are definitely NOT ready to get your license yet.  Keep practicing and don't attempt the test again until you have all the maneuvers down pat.  You are not ready for the streets yet. (I'm not trying to be mean...it's a safety issue.)

    Good luck.

  3. You only sounds like you are not ready to take the driving test. Practice some more and be confident next time.
