Question:

Is this considered a long-distance call?

If I call someone whose cell phone number's area code is 773 (which is Chicago [and I live in a suburb nearby]) using my home phone, and that person is in California, is that considered long distance?

What about if that person calls me at my home phone?

Where I live, whenever I am calling someone (whether it's their cell phone, home phone or other land line), I always have to dial the area code plus the 7-digit number. I have to do this even if I am calling my next-door neighbor... hope this helps.

Thanks for your help! (hope that wasn't too hard to follow =] )

  1. My son got his cell phone when he was living with me.  His area code is the same as mine.  Whenever I call him, I just dial the 7 digit number, no '1' or area code, no matter where he is in the country at the time.  There has never been a long distance charge for this.  I think air time still applies.
