Question:

Is this considered copy-write infringement?

I'm working on a screenplay, which I am entering in a contest. :) I wanted to draw reference to some various novels (their titles), and strong reference to an old play by Oscar Wilde.

Would that be considered copy-write infringement? Could I even include some lines from the play? Thank you all so much!!

  1. The works of Oscar Wilde are public domain.  This means that copyright has expired and you may quote them or reference them as you please.

  2. i think that's fine. specifically oscar wilde. but i would double check by contacting the publisher of that oscar wilde uses prbly dramatist play services.

    g'luck with your contest! :)

  3. I suggest that you include a source for what you enter into the contest, because it IS a contest after all, and it goes out into the public. If you are dealing with malicious judges, it's possible they would consider it as copyright infringement. Just to be on the safe side here. =]
