I live in VA and my fiance put his 2 week notice in to his manager. Two days later his boss fired him and said it was because he did a payout for the employees to eat. This kind of pay out has been done thousands of times before by about 10 different employees. Then the manager has proceeded to tell customers and employees that my fiance was stealing and every time he says it the story changes. Once it was he was stealing money then it was he was stealing beer. The story is always different. Is it discrimination considering his boss has also done this kind of payout and so has others and only my fiance was fired for it? What is it called that he is spreading false rumors and could potentially cause my fiance to not get another job. I need help. I dont know who to call that handles this in the state of Virginia. Any info would be much appreciated.

  1. The Boss can do as he pleases. It is the benefit of being the boss. Maybe your fiance' should have had it okd by the boss first.

  2. If you are an at will employee -- and most likely you are -- you can be dismissed for any reason, even if it is because your fiance is not liked. You have exactly the same privilege -- to quit for any reason including not liking your boss.

  3. It does not sound too good.  I'd contact an attorney and settle this matter out in court.  If your fiancé was still hired at this place of employment, contacting the human resouces department might help, but since your fiancé is not, a lawyer, judge, jury, and courtroom may be your only avenue.
