so my car and a car infront of me were waiting to go out of this parking lot. but i accidentally let go of my brake very very very VERY slightly... so it hit the car on the back a little.. i didn't really see a big damage on the other person's car... that person looked at me through her back mirror.. so i thought it was a signal for her to make me stop... so i was going to get out but she went... and she turned the right signal light and went back in the parking lot.. so i thought she was coming to me and i waited for about 2-3 minutes.. she didn't show up.. so i went out of the parking lot and kind of looked back to see if she was following me.. but she wasn't... so i just left... i came home and saw my car.. and there was a slight dent.. but i just smashed it and it popped right out... it wasn't anything severe.. but what i'm scared is.. what if she reports me as hit and run? what if she was waiting for me to go back into the parking lot like she did? this is only like my 4th wee

  1. First of all, nobody is going to jail.  If she finds you (and she won't unless she has your license plate number) all you have to do is explain that she was the one who drove away.  Just like you explained it to us.

  2. She probably realized with such a slight bump there would be no damage and left.  You did the right thing by hanging around (although I would have waited a bit longer).  As for the other answer on this board...it doesn't matter what degree of damage you cause, when you leave the scene of an accident it is considered 'felony hit & run'.

  3. If EVER in doubt, you should make a report at the nearest police station. Remember to record the officer's name/ number. Just tell the story as you know it.

  4. I think you might be fine. if its just a littl fender bender it is nothing to be worried about.

Once a van backed into my thunderbird, and left no really damage. We decided to do nothing about it or anything.

I think it usually has to be a certain amount of damage to really be considered hit in run.

  5. You did all you could do.  If she was going to question you about it, she would have come back to you while you waited.  She may not have had any damage anyways.
