  1. no, not rare, sounds like maybe your dog was mistreated at some point in its life, were your dogs ears clipped?  if so, he could still remember the pain, just be patient and kind

i have a 4 yrs old female and i absolutely adore her

  2. Min Pins are very common.  I see them all the time.

I would ask your vet about the ear sensitivity.

  3. No, Miniature Pinschers are not a rare breed by a long shot!  There are tons of them!!  Your dog's issues could be health related although there are a slew of very poorly bred ones that simply have horrible temperaments so it could be that but you need to rule out a medical reason for the behavior.  He likely isn't schizophrenic at all as that rarely occurs in dogs but it is not normal behavior for any dog to scream when you touch them, regardless of breed or mix.

  4. no min pins are definately not rare we had a pin-pom a mini pincher and pomeranian mix but as for the ear i have no clue...

  5. min pins aren't rare, and if he yelps when you touch his ears maybe they're infected.  they are a high strung breed.

  6. It's 'miniature pinscher'. They're not particularly rare. Min pins can be a little nutsy, but if he yelps when you touch his ears, etc. you need to take him to the vet - sounds like he has an infection and needs antibiotics. If he's in pain, I can't blame him for acting a little goofy.

  7. He yelps possibly from being startled.

  8. No, Miniature Pinschers are not rare.

    They are a terrier breed.\

If he's yelping from normal handling you might want a vet to go over him to see if there's a reason.  Could be minor but if this is something that happens regularly I would have the dog evaluated.  Could have gotten an injury (break?) from jumping from too high of location or something similar.

    ***EDIT***

Additonal info, from the MPCA (Miniature Pinscher Club of America), for those that want more facts about this breed...

    like it's origin.

My comment about this dog being a Terrier is based on the fact I got this info directly from breeders/exhibitors and this breed clearly exhibits terrier characteristics.

You either love it or you don't.

    " Breed History & Characteristics

The Miniature Pinscher is _not_ a scaled-down, smaller version of anything, especially the much larger Doberman. Both the Doberman and Miniature Pinscher likely descended from the Old German Standard Pinscher, (considered by many to be behind several German breeds) but there the relationship ends. Historians agree that the Miniature Pinscher originated in Germany several centuries ago as an efficient barnyard ratter. In an AKC Gazette column of 1935, Helen Coster stated that in response to her inquiry, the German Kennel Club in Stuttgart, said in their letter to her "the Zwerg or Dwarf Pinscher is a pure German breed from olden times, and that it has nothing to do with the Doberman or the Manchester Terrier." The Club also calls him the "Reh" Pinscher, but this term is only used for a dog of stag-red color, "reh" referring to a small red deer found in German forests years ago."

Either way, the breed is not rare and yelping should not be a considered normal.

  9. No they are not rare and there are a lot of them around.

Have you had your dog all of its life,if not and you rescued the dog, or adopted the dog, it could have been abused and afraid of being touched.

again, if you have had it since puppy, it is more than likely medical, it could have a very sensitive skin, and it hurting....the dog needs to see a vet to rule this out.

touching the ears and body and it yelping is not normal at all.

are you could be startling the dog when touching it, if asleep some dogs will yelp and jump when touched in their sleep

I do not think its anything like that, but please have the baby checked over by your vet, is better safe than sorry, when it comes to its health.

check the ears, do they look red on the tips, discolored inside the ears, any drainage at all, odor to them....this would be the signs of a bad ear infection.....

    good luck

  10. I would definetely have his ears checked but if he is yelping when you touch him other places too, it may be that he is just startled etc.  These dogs are not rare. They are a minaiture version of the German Pinscher, not the Doberman Pinscher as most people seem to think.  They are usually very high strung often making them nervous and/or anxious which is more than likely the reason for the yelping.  These little dogs have tons of energy and need daily exercise.  Playing fetch with him or with toys with him will take care of alot of his  exercise needs however, as with all breeds, play will not fulfill their primal instinct to walk.  A daily brisk walk for about 20 mins or so along with the play would be great for him.  If his energy is drained, he won't be so wound up.  Also, make sure you give him rules and follow through.  An example would be he can't get on the couch well then you never let him on the couch.  That rule is just an example of course, it could be any rule (he should actually have a few rules aka "boundaries) but the point is he needs to have structure.  He needs to feel SAFE and to trust you.  The only way to make him feel this way is to let him know you are in charge.  If he feels you are not in charge, and he is already an anxious and nervous breed by nature, well then that makes the world a very scary place for him because who can he follow and depend on?  This is simply how a dog thinks.  So drain all that pent up energy and give him some boundaries and calmly and consistently enforce them and he will show great improvement in no time!  Good luck!

  11. oh god i know how you feel!

with my rat terrier if you just walk up to her she'll cry!

to me i thinks it because your dog may be intiminated by something or just plain scared.

but you should ask if someone is hitting your dog cause that could be it too..
