I was hired to do a portrait of a family's 3 horses and father and son. I don't usually do charcoal drawings and am much more into expressionism, but agreed to do the drawing. It has to be done in just a couple days and I have been looking at it too long to even know what to think of it!! Please give me some opinions!! thanks!... oh and can you please be polite? i'm not exactly proud of it.

  1. oh my god, hun this is very good, you should be proud of it infact i would buy it if i could lol. something needs to be in the background though, mountains? im not sure, put something that would usually be behind them

  2. I think it looks great. Maybe add something behind them where the big empty space is. But it looks very nice! Good job!

  3. I think this drawing is well done. I would assume the resemblance to the people is enough that they'll be flattered by your skill in that area alone.

My main comment would be that the background is rather uninspired. I can't even really tell what they're close to... is it a barn? It's very nondescript, and though I understand the point of the portrait is the people, perhaps a more involved background could add to the overall effect.

Good luck! I'd love to see the final product.

  4. don't do anything to it, it's amazing!

  5. Yeah, I actually do not think you need to do anything to the background or anywhere else.  I think it's kind of amazing the way you pulled off that almost empty background.  What you do with those square/rectangular shapes is fascinating.  You really pull that off.  I suppose one could say that the way the horses and men are drawn is different from the way the land is drawn . . . . but I think that somehow works too, even though it "shouldn't."  This is a very interesting drawing.  It's exciting to see it on here.  I wonder what you're not proud of.  Though, I know in my own work, other people can love it and yet there's something that just irritates me that I can hardly even explain.  Anyway -- it's a really interesting drawing.  And yet, I think, still traditional enough as far as a portrait so that they will be pleased.  Nice work.

  6. wow, i really love this drawing. and actually, i don't think you need anything in the blank space. it would kind of overwhelm the person looking at the picture, and the focus is supposed to be on the horses and people, not the background.

  7. wow! i think they'll really like it but.. maybe you could put more shadows or images in the background. hope this helps

  8. oh mt gosh that i horrible...the linings are laim...the shadowings suck...

just kidding babe its great....even more that great...perfect

    NICE JOB

  9. dud that is beautiful, your pic. makes my drawings look like chicken scratch. but i agree with the others fill in the big empty spot. other than that its good

  10. this is beautiful.
