This is in regards to my previous question, and these are the 2 systems:

What I want to know is, with this setup, will I be able to hook the dvd player using HDMI to my HDTV:

And be able to hook up the dvd player to the A/V receiver for digital surround sound via coaxial or optical cables with speakers from this surround sound system:

  1. the answer would be NO....it says it right here

"This sleek HDTV supports all TV formats-1080i, 720p, 480i and 480p has an integrated ATSC/NTSC/ClearQAM tuner and is packed with multiple HD inputs-including HDMI™"....noone in that description does it say 1080p it says i which is not the same....look for a better tv then make sure its FULL HD not 720p but 1080p....dont be afraid to ask questions....tell the salesman u KNOW what u want and thats all u want...me them work for u thats their job..

  2. First things first, the Oppos are fantastic and have no equal as far as SD DVD players are concerned.  You've chosen a good DVD player.

Secondly, I'd skip that receiver and purchase an Onkyo 605 or Yamaha 663 if you can save up some money.

Thirdly, your TV does not support 1080p nor does it need to.  At that screen size you will not be able to differentiate between 720p or 1080p.

Then all you would do is run an HDMI from Oppo to receiver and one from receiver to TV.
