I'm throwing a baby shower and I'm not sure if I have enough food or if I should prepare more. This is what I've got planned so far...

a veggie tray w/ dip-large tray

a cheese tray w/ crackers-large tray

2 boxes of italian pasta salad-each box serves 4

2 boxes of bacon ranch pasta salad-each box serves 4

pineapple upside down cake- just 1 cake

lemon bars-makes 16, i figure not everyone likes lemon

punch

What do you think, should I add another dish? maybe a potato salad or something? thanks!!!

  1. You should get a large deli tray with rolls as well.  That should be plenty.  Generally with a deli tray they will give you all the fixins with it.  That should be plenty.

  2. Try another cake (Something everyone likes, like chocolate or vanilla) and another box of italian pasta, and maybe a bowl of salad, incase someone wants to eat light. Also put in some grapes and strawberries, peeled and washed, for people to snack on.

  3. I think you are fine. All you need to do is add fillers.

Potato chips, pretzels, dips. And of course drinks.

Use small plates so people don't think its dinner time.

If you feel like making some potato salad..knock yourself out.

But I think you will probably have left overs.

  4. I would do 4 boxes of each of the pasta's  and if you can afford it maybe 2 veggie trays and a  huge salad.   Chips and salsa (buy it at costco or smart n final)  they come in the restaurant size!!!

  5. Those pasta salads come out small. I would do more. I would maybe add a big filler. Maybe some small sandwiches cut really small. They take up alot of room on the plate and you wouldn't have to make so many.  Maybe another small dessert.Maybe a veggie tray. I think it looks good other than you may come out short.

A cute idea also I found is to make little design to your toothpicks is to add a little cut out of a onesie or duckie out of a paper. They really liven up a table.

    Good luck!

  6. I'm actually thinking that you might want to revise your entire menu!  Here are some ideas:

    1. Vege platter with carrots, celery, grape tomatos, cauliflower, broccoli, mushrooms, pepper slices, and ranch dressing.

    2.  1 large pasta salad:  1 box Rotelle pasta, cooked al dente and cooled; 1 chub salami, cut into cubes; 1 4 oz package crumbled feta cheese; 1 red bell pepper, seeded and chopped; 1 bunch green onions, chopped; 1 can sliced black olives, drained; 1 bottle Berensteins Cheese Fantastico Salad Dressing.  Mix above and chill overnight.  Stir before serving.  Serves 8 - 12 comfortably

    3.  Spinach Salad:  2 bags baby spinach; 10 slices platter bacon, cooked and crumbled; 1 cup candied walnuts; 2 4 oz packages crumbled goat cheese; 2 cans mandarin oranges, drained; 1 chopped red onion; 1 bottle good french dressing.  Mix and serve.  Serves 8 - 12 comfortably

    4.  Cold cut platter:  1/2 lb sliced smythfield ham, 1/2 lb genoa salami, 1/2 pound smoked turkey; 1/2 lb. lean roast beef; 1/2 lb provolone cheese; pepperoncini, marinated artichoke hearts, marinated mushrooms.  Serves 10 or more

    5.  Hot rolls with condiments for sandwiches

    6.  Dessert Platter:  brownie bites, lemon bars, pecan bars, cookies, cake

    7.  A good punch:  one ice ring made with sparkling flavored water, use lemon leaves as water freezes for decoration; 1 can frozen pineapple orange juice; 1 can frozen margarita mix; 1 can frozen hawaiian punch; 1 can frozen pineapple juice;  2 liters ginger ale, 4 bottles sparkling water, flavored lemon or orange.

  7. I think your fine. Maybe just add some sort of crackers for the cheese tray.

Each large tray usually feeds 15-20 people...

I say just stick with what you have.

  8. This is a baby shower, probably ladies only, I'd think. This is "social snack stuff". Ladies aren't there for a "meal", just lite social dining, right? It still sounds a little too lite. I'd suggest you have some "back-up" snacks, you know, something you can casually "throw together" if the need arises. If you do end up with too much, you'll have "snacks" for your family/guys(?), when they come home.

I admit this is not my "area of expertise", but my wife( a professional cook/caterer) is sleeping now, otherwise I'd refer her to this "Q". Sorry, I hope I helped.

  9. i think you are going to be short.  i might add one more pasta box, and maybe add a garden salad it is better to go over then to have your guest remember that you ran out of food and they stoped at taco bell on the way home.

  10. Maybe a cake that was like half white half chocolate.
