If a young, healthy man dies and he and his wife NEVER had the opportunity to have children, can his sperm be collected and preserved shortly after his death so that his wife can have his child?

P.S. I apologize if this is in the wrong section.

  1. yes it is possible

  2. i think so

  3. i think if his body was not dessecrated yet

  4. I think so, its probably tricky though. They did this in an episode of Ugly Betty, but you probably would need to do it immediatly.

  5. I think that would be possible considering that the body does not actually die the second you die. But thats also taking in consideration on how the guy died. did his heart stop? did he's brain or something fail? either way it have to be spur of the moment kind of reaction. and i doubt a womens reaction to her boyfriend, son, nephew, or whatever dies and there first reaction is wait! don't forget his sperm.

  6. Hmm...I hope you are writing a novel or something and need the information for your book, not that you are planning on killing your husband! ( =

  7. Yes, it can be done. There is a time window though. The sperm will only stay alive for so many hours after a body has died. If there is no willing place stating that this is a wish by the deceased then I think you have to get a court order to retrieve the sperm and that takes time. I do think you can et an emergency hearing from a judge in this matter since time is of the essence. Also, the cause of death may interfere with this also.

  8. Yes I think so I know i heared that some where before.

  9. Actually yes, it has been done before but I think it was only with the man giving permission before his death if I remember right but yes she did use his sperm and was inseminated and became pregnant I think it was 3 months after his death.  It was about 5 years ago when i remember hearing the story on TV.

  11. Yes that is an option!!! Although, I'm not completely sure if you have to go through any legal proceedings beforehand but I would think not.

I don't know if you heard the story of the soldier that died and when he was brought back, his wife had his sperm taken out and harvested for her use :)

  12. I've know of a situation where the man was in a coma and his sperm was collected before turning off the life support.

I'm not sure, try to google: collecting sperm after death

It sounds a little "ICK" to me and not possible but who knows, it very well could be true.

    Good luck finding your answer.

    Take care.
