Is this fact or an old wives tale??

I had one of those 4d scans the other day and the baby looks so much like me it is unreal. Let me just say technology is amazing and if you are able to get it done i would do it because it is wonderful seeing your baby like that. Anyway, my partner was a bit upset that everyone said she looked like me. He said he hoped she has somethings of his and i told him that she is bound to and change loads so may end up looking more like him than me anyway but either way we will both be in there. So the other day he says to me, babies are born to look like their dads so they can bond with them as mothers have the natural bond from the womb. I don't believe this as i cant see how this is medically possible. I said i would google it for him but nothing can be found which makes me think more that it is fiction. Has anyone else heard this?? im sure she will look like him too and so dont know why he is worrying but this just sounds like an old wives tale to me. Can anyone clear this up for me??

  1. I had one of those, I was told she looked like me, and when i had her she looks exactly like me when i was a baby. I have red hair and her dad has blonde. since red is dominant most times, she got her daddys hair colour. im finding the older she gets the more she resembles him, both of us in fact, a mixture.

I find also i look like my mom and i have my dads personality. No matter the looks, its totally a mixture, and she would take a higher dominance of one of the parents looks

  2. About 8 years ago I read an article in Discover magazine which discussed babies looking most like their dads at around age 1 to 2, the link is below.  Okay, 12 years ago - it's not recent.  Your infant is a long way from being 1 year old, her face can and will change a lot in the next few years.

Tell your partner to suck it up, what if she is just like him in temperament?  You can't predict how a child will come out, nor can you predict how you will respond - if he loves you and thinks your beautiful he'll think the same of your daughter.

  3. Total fiction!  There are some scientific facts about why babies look the way they do (large eyes, etc, things like that) b/c humans have a tendency to see those things as vulnerable and needing protection.  But as far as looking like the father to cause bonding...total fiction!!  I have three boys...the oldest looks like me, the second one could be a clone of my husband, and the third one looks like me.  It just depends on the dna the child got!

  4. I've never heard that being an old wives tales.

  5. I think someone got a little jealous of what the family said about the baby looking like you. Men can be sensitive about things like that. Silly but true. I would say it's an old wives tale.

  6. sounds too silly to be true....

  7. old wives tale

  8. I've never heard that.

We got a great face shot of her with a regular 2d ultrasound!

She looked exactly like me when she was born but now she'll be a year (next sunday) and she looks so much like her father!

It's all up in the air, babies change so much from the moment they are born to when they are 1, 2, 18 LOL.

  9. aww! cute little babies :D but it probably will look more like you, however, it really will change after its born, and Im sure that it will have some of his features, even if they are overall like yours.

  10. Just a tale! Genetics does not work like that. The more dominant features are what come out, it is as simple as that.

  11. lol @ your hubby let him believe whatever he wants to believe it seems to me he is a litlle upset about how much the baby already seems to look like you ....but besides the looks she could come out acting just like him and nothing like you with just your looks so its a give and take just say sure hunny and let him believe it lol he'll love her just as much if she comes out your twin as if she were to look like him dont worry about it

  12. Old Wives Tale....that is definitely NOT a fact. My first son looked like me when he was born, now he looks identical to my husband. My second son didn't look like either of us, and now he looks like me! :-)

  13. It's all about the genes you and your partner passed on to this baby! Those will determine what he/she looks like! You gotta just wait and see. :)

  14. It's a wives tale.  DNA makes us who and what we are.  Your partner needs to buckle up.  How could one possibly have a feeling of dissapointment when seeing your baby for the first time?  Dad needs to get real.

  15. I've never heard of that before but I don't think its true. I know children who look like their dads and other who look like their moms, its just down to genetics! I think maybe he is just feeling a little sad and left out that the baby looks so much like you. Sometimes I think we forget how much of a bond we mothers do have with our children. We carry them for 9 months, feel every kick and movement and its harder for a man to bond. I know it is for my partner.

Like the saying: "A woman becomes a mother as soon as she finds out she is pregnant, a man becomes a father as soon as the baby is born". I think its very true for the majority of fathers.

He's just disappointed. Try to reassure him, he'll be fine :)

  16. In one of my human sexuality classes at my university we were taught that babies actually tend to look more like their fathers. The real reason was that  it was genetically a way to assure the father that it was their baby. I am not really sure how true this is. I haven't heard the other wives tale but it could very well be possible..good luck!

  17. My son looked 100% identical to my husband when born. Now he is 4 years old and has my cheeks, lips, smile, personality, and eye color. Things will change!

  18. Iv never heard of this.. what the baby looks like is simply down to genetics and is not based on the childs future bonding possibilities..

So id say its an old wives tale!

  19. old wives tale for sure.
