For years they've been saying that global warming will lead to increased and more powerful hurricanes. Not anymore........

  1. The article is interesting, I am a skeptic when it comes to global warming and the affects it will cause. However I don't believer we need to call those who disagree kooks.

  2. No doubt that humans have screwed up the earth and climate has changed, now here's the BUT, to what extent and everything seems to be blamed on climate change.... It's a global industry and the biggest con of all is carbon credits..... The best thing to come out of this is research into alternative energies... Now has anyone asked Al Gore how much carbon he has to offset thanks to all his Jet setting, and of course he did it all for free......

  3. Climate change will lead to all sorts of different weather changes all over the world.. the main one being that the overall temperature is rising. Just because one article says that global warming 'may not' lead to increased hurricanes, does not mean that the global warming 'kooks' don't know what they're talking about. All the worlds climate scientists agree that its happening, and nobody knows exactly what the effects are going to be.. there are many different opinions- just as there are with other climatic event.

Seco.. who do you think raises those cows in vast sheds leading to huge methane production?! They don't do it on their own! The methane produced by livestock is ultimately caused by us as we raise the cows for our own puposes. Idiot.

  4. Ya gotta read the whole article, Tom.

It really didn't proof much or shake up the current theory, and garnered a high level of publicity because of the researcher's high profile.

Ya gotta read it through -- on something hot like this, from more than one source -- and you have to put it in context to have any meaning.

That said, is it possible for you to ask a question without casually tossing out a word like "kook?"  How about "advocates?"  In any case, no, this is not further proof that some of us "don't know what" we're talking about.  It's further proof that this is a slippery slope, that we're in uncharted territory, and that there's a need for better models, as in this case, and further study to corroborate or refute the gist of the study. There was some interesting stuff buried deep in the article.  If you read it, you seemed to have failed to include those elements in here to give your question some foundation.

  5. ha ha dude your an idiot, did you see the beginning where it said a prominant "federal" scientist, if there is anything i know about the federal government, especially under the bush administration, they will do or say anything to make themselves look good, or at least not stupid, and if there is no global warming, why are ice caps disappearing?  why is methane levels in our atmosphere shooting up?  and if nothing else, dont you wanna go green so you can s***w over the utility company?

  6. They're nuts I tell ya! Absolutely friggin nuts. The reason we are having fewer hurricanes is simple. It's due to the fact that tropical waters are cooling off. And when the F' did computer modeling start constituting as scientific research? He should get his fat a- - out of his computer chair and do some real research.

  7. they will only discard what they don't want to believe... no matter how strong the proof is.

  8. Hmm thats hard to say.

It not unknown that our planets climate has changed in the past many times, including the magnetic poles reverting.

The warming of the planet over all is probably just a long cycle of normal climatic change. However the burning of fossil fuels coal and other material have only risen with the rise of the chinese industry, and many other nations beginning their climb to modern times.

I am sure this is not helping the sitiuation in the least and has most likely spread it up.

On Hurricanes though, sure it could a normal cycle, seemingly worse from more populated areas, more buildings, and more people living in these zones. But its also a fairly obvious fact that heat can cause storms to become worse. If the water and air tempature is higher more water can be drawn from the ocean as the storm moves thus adding to its size which makes it draw more and so on.

And i dont think they are saying global warming dont lead to increased storms, they are just saying that the past 10 years have been overly bad due to a 10 year cycle.

    Good question.

  9. Nice article, but it doesn't prove anything for either side. There is certainly debate as to whether or not more heat will create more and stronger hurricanes.

  10. Ive said it once already but ill say it again lol

"global warming" is just a buzzword the tax man invented.

edit: heres a funny one for you - i had to go find the link, but methane produced by cows and livestock has a bigger effect on global warming than people themselves lol.

Response to Helen: Jeez, what is it with you people and a lack of a sense of humour? (rhetorical)

... There are so many theories on global warming that the only conclusion you can draw is that nobody really knows for certain - Yes people have an effect on the environment but there is relatively little proof to say its a significant effect when compared to various "natural" events over the earths timeline - another article which i regret not being able to find again has a lot of compelling evidence to support the theory that global warming will have positive effects (based on compensating for decreased solar activity since the sun is cooling down - though how cool a giant ball of fire can get is unknown  lol :-P)... again its debatable but the fact is climate changes have been taking place for longer than humans have ever been around... the earth doesnt necessarily need looking after - it can sort itself out (read into some ice-ages if you really want to know more).  The earth is constantly evolving and global warming (and cooling) is an inevitable part of the cycle - with or without a man-made contribution, and it will continue to go on long after we've departed...

Its easy drawing simple conclusions and throwing meaningless, unfounded insults at people - try do some research first!

  11. Who are "they"? There has not been a consensus on what will happen with hurricanes under global warming.  Most think they will get stronger, but there won't be more of them.  The region of influence of hurricanes will almost certainly expand, though, as the regions of warm water expand.  Southern California would be getting tropical storms and hurricanes more often than they do now.
