Question:

Is this going to be the end of New Orleans?

I've never been there regrettably and a friend of mine is originally from that area. Hurricane Katrina only hit this place three years ago and the place has not even fully recovered. Now with this likely beast by the name of Gustav creeping towards, I fear that this place will be deserted. And as much as I'm glad that the government is taking the right steps ahead of time, the thing you have to ask yourself, does it matter?

  1. I hope there is a way to save New Orleans.  It is my favorite city in the south.  It is like no other place, almost like it's own country.  Maybe Dutch engineers can talk with the Army Corps because New Orleans is worth saving.  I have cousins in Terrebonne Parish and St. Tammany, and  they have already started for here.  Anyway, if NO does come out of this intact, please visit!  You will fall in love with the Big Easy too!  Then you will understand why it needs to be saved.

  2. Probably not.

Gustav is currently forecast to make landfall in south-central Lousiana and NOLA may be spared the worst of the storm.

Gustav's storm surge (15' to 20') is predicted to be much smaller than Katrina's surge (30'), and storm surge was what caused all of the flooding, almost all of the deaths, and most of the damage.

New Orleans' city-proper only flooded because the levee system was poorly designed & built by the federal government, and it was overwhelmed by Katrina's surge. Even then the levee system ALMOST held.

    Wish all of us well.

  3. Let's hope not.

  4. I guess the Chocolate city is melting.
