This is not me I'm talking about. My little sister is 12 and in 6th grade and she has straight A's and her older sister is in 8th said that she was doing all the stuff that she covered in 7th grade in Social Studies. Also in math she is doing Pre-Algebra but she said her teacher said that she would be doing the same thing next year. And her Language Arts didn't get anymore advanced. And she's doing Earth Science and that moves on to Physical Science which all the 8th graders are doing.

So do you think she should skip a grade?

She has all straght A's.

So she's trying to get into 8th grade.

Thanks!

  1. idk but you should talk to the principle at the elementary and the counslers the jr. high theyll help you decide and stuff like that!!!! :D <3

  2. NO kid should skip a grade, there is no need for it and they miss an entire year of instruction.

When I was a freshman in high school, there was a kid who was 11 in my class (I was 14, I went through the classes normally). He was homeschooled and his mom thought he was smart enough for high school. He flunked out the first semester, he didn't even know how to multiply or divide double digit numbers!

  3. No she should not.   She needs to stay where she is.

  4. no she should stay in the grade she is in.  i am sure she has freinds there, not to mention she will get picked on if she moves up a grade.  she can take more classes to fill in her spare time and as she gets into high school more courses will be offered.  maybe in her junior year she could start college classes as well as high school, my sister-in-law did and it worked out well.

  5. have your parents discuss their concerns with her teacher and school pyschologist.

  6. my son is almost 11 in 5th grade and he gets straight A's but I wouldn't have him skip a grade. I think you have to consider the social aspect of it as well as the academic. Why push them? Let her be where she is and get straight A's rather than push her ahead and have her struggle to get straight A's. My son has all the confidence in the world which I think would drop if he were to skip a grade.

Instead ask for extra work to keep her challenged. My son's teacher gives him extra work to challenge himself with when he is done with regular class work. She said he is usually the first one done with math papers and tests so she has started giving him other things to keep his mind challenged.

  7. No. I think its a bad idea at any grade over 2 because there is such a difference in ages after that point. Developmentally and mentally she would be a year behind, younger than the other kids, and having to make friends all over again. My advice would be to sign up for the harder classes (if offered) or just wait until high school when there are alot of classes that are challenging. See if there is a gifted program, but don't skip the kid a grade. She could always be doing extra at home to learn things above what she is currently being taught.

  8. I was in first grade and had a sixth grade reading level. Guess what, they didnt let me skip! but now I am all caught up

  9. I'm not so sure. I'm 13, I go to a private school, I get straight A's, and have never scored below the 95 percentile in the country for I.T.B.S./S.A.T.9/S.A.T. I have never skipped a grade, although a few teachers have suggested it. I think it's good to go at a steady level, regardless of how advanced you are. I suggest extra classes that challenge more, or talk to her teachers about what they think. See if she can get into John Hopkins or S.I.G. That's Summer Institute for the Gifted. I've gone once before in U.C. Berkley, and am going this summer to Princeton. That is my answer.

  10. No, I speak from experience. It is just too stressful and overwhelming even if she is a straight A student. I was a straight A student and skipped 8th grade and have been at the middle to low end of the grade food chain ever since freshmen year... If she even has an inkling of a social life, it will be gone in an instant. Please don't let her make the same mistake I did. School is not something that you should skip around in even if you are at the top of your class.

    Good luck!
