my 9 month old son is now off the bottle completely and has been for a month now he absolutely loves drinking out of his Avent beaker sippy cup and we have had no problems with the transaction, i have had 2 compliments from my Health Visitor and my Play Group leader saying it is nice not to see a baby drinking out a bottle at 9 months. why did they say this? is it better for a baby to drink milk and juice from a beaker then a bottle?? the reason we tried a sippy was because his 2 bottom teeth came through and at first he enjoyed biting the cup to relieve teething pain then he wanted to drink out of it all the time, also we have still been sterilising the cups do we need to as he puts everything in his mouth at the moment anyway!!!!

  1. It's good b/c of the fact that you won't have to go through weaning from the bottle later (which can be VERY hard for some babies!).

As long as he isn't carrying the cup around all day long and is only using it when he would, otherwise, be using a bottle, it's great.  Just don't let him carry it everywhere or take it to bed so that milk doesn't pool in his mouth.  : )

  2. way to go mom! i plan on having my son off the bottle before 1 year old..i hope my son takes to it like your child.. anyways they complimented you because theres nothing like seeing a 2 year old with a bottle..shame on those moms..i'll probably get a thumbs down for that one!

  3. Why can't you spell 'Rhys' correctly? And it's *TRANSITION*, not *TRANSACTION*. What you have written makes no sense.

  4. shrinking violet....i bet your s h i t doesn't stink either does it?  jeeez, get a life!!  Who criticizes the way someone choses to spell their child's name??  wow.

now to address your ?  9 months and on a sippy!  thats great!  they make sippy cups for babies 6 mos +.  Savannah, my daughter is 10 1/2 months old and doesnt like to drink from her sippy cup but i am dead set on taking the bottle away at 12 months.  finally we found something that worked for her.  she LOVES to drink from a straw!  I found sippy cups with straws rather than spouts and im sure with a few weeks of practice her bottle will be buh bye too!  Nice work mummy!

  5. i like the way u spelt reece.... its excllent u got u son on to a cup my daughters got on cups during the day but still like bottle for last drink at night my 2yr old still has 40z of milk in hers anight so well done u i no so many people who still ket the kids have bottles and dummies at 3..

  6. its normal

  7. Some parents choose to give juice and sugary drinks in a bottle which isn't good for lo's once theyhave teeth.  Well done you on getting your son to take from a beaker all the time, my son was almost 18 mths before we got rid of the bedtime bottle (used a beaker during the day)

And just for the record I have always known your son's name to be spelt the way you have and not the welsh way, that seems to be the latest trend to spell it RHYS..... and why follow trends:)

  8. It is because it has become all to commom in this day and age to see kids three years of age still with a bottle, and that is definetely BAD.  Once a child has teeth, the sugar in milk or juice will eat away at the enamel of your teeth of a bottle is left to sit in your mouth.

  9. youre baby will do what ever he is happy with...offer him a drink in a bottle and a beaker, whichever he choses he wants!!!

and as long as you treat youre little one well, ignore what health visitors say,its easy to read a book on child health, its a lot diffrent haveing one!

  10. It's great that your baby is wanting to drink out of a cup already.  There is nothing wrong with it.

  11. He sounds like such a big boy. That is so great. I would still sterilze everything until he is a year.

  12. some people keep thier kids on a bottle way too long it is good for a baby  to be on a cup only at that age and not relying on a bottle.

  13. At nine months it is PERFECTLY normal for a baby to use a sippy cup, my little brother used one at this age as well.

  14. shrinking violet you cant tell people how to spell their own kids names, are you unaware that you can spell a name more than one way? What age are you?12? As for the spelling mistake, people make mistakes but it takes someone with common sense to realise what they are trying to say and just to continue on reading the question and actually ANSWER the question insteading of writing a pile of c**p that no one even asked or are interested in!

it is great that your son is drinking from a sippy cup, if he is putting everything in his mouth anyway then you dont need to sterilise but you can keep doing it if it makes you feel better but theres no need!

  15. I'm a student nurse on placement with heath visitors at the moment. In the past few weeks the health visitor I have been out doing visits with has been telling mums that juices shouldn't be put in bottles because it is bad for the baby's teeth. No idea why that is though :)
