since baking soda is good for your teeth then would it clean your mouth to make a thick water substance of water and baking soda and swish really hard?

No. You have to brush with the baking soda. However, by mixing one tspn of baking soda with one glass of water, it can be an effective mouth rinse. There is no substitute for actually brushing your teeth.
