Question:

Is this grounds for a grade dispute?

When the course ended I looked online to see that I got a C+.

A little disapointed (hoping for a B), I contacted the professor and asked him if I could view the answers I submitted for the final and compare them with the correct answers. He said he could not send me the final exam answers via email, but would be willing to make an appointment to sit down in person and go over it. Fair enough.....................so I emailed him back saying "I'm availalbe at such and such times"...........he never got back to me. Didn't respond. I emailed him again a while later..........still no response. It's been several weeks and he has not gotten back to me.

Does the professor have a right to just write down grades without letting me see the exam answers? What if he threw out the test and no longer has it? Should I dispute the grade? Do I have a case here? Do I have a right as a student to view my own exam results?

  1. Yes, you do have the right to see your exam and results.

Multiple professors that I know are not as into the land of email or computers as lots of people are. They like old-fashioned books for the most part, unless, they are computer science professors of course. Unless school is in, they don't check.

They also tend to travel extensively.

If this happened at the end of spring semester right before summer break, for instance, it is definitely possible that your professor went on vacation or a research trip and won't check in until the fall semester starts.

Perhaps wait until you can see him face-to-face to arrange the appointment.

If he won't do anything after that, then yes, absolutely protest...at least protest the fact you haven't seen you final results. Follow the chain of command though...department chair, office of student services, college dean, ombudsman, etc.

Good luck...I hope it works out.
