Im looking for insurance for myself and my family that includes maternity. I got a quote from an insurance company called I Can Benefits. They are saying they can insure us for 409.00 a month(me, hubby, and 2 kids) with no deductible. The part I am most skeptical about, is that includes maternity and there is no waiting period to become pregnant. My question is does anyone have or have heard of this company.

  1. Give us a website.  The name sounds hokey and the "no deductible" sounds like a discount plan.  Discount plans don't have deductibles because you pay for everything.

The other question is did they ask your age and zip code where you live or did you just get the quote without it.  If they didn't ask it's a discount plan.

    Read this warning...

    Hope that helps.

  2. It sounds like a "defined benefit" plan, which only pays what the schedule in the policy dictates, with no deductible. It is probably not a major medical plan.

Or, it could be a health discount plan, where you get discounts on certain treatments, chilbirth, etc. with no deductible.

Sounds too good to be true with no deductible, and no waiting period for pregnancy.

I googled I Can Benefit. It looks like a brokerage, or independent agency, because of the different lines, and all the companies that are listed that are represented.

I looked to see if I could pull up the policy outline of coverages, but couldn't.

Find out what company the health quote is with and call your state insurance department, to find out if it's licensed in your state, and to check about the coverages.

  3. Well, for that kind of money, you have to read the coverages very, very carefully.  I noticed on their web site, they have strict policy limits, and did NOT see anything that indicates ANY kind of maternity coverage.

The annual max benefits for seeing a doctor, is $150.  That's ONE visit, per family, per year.  The annual SURGERY benefit is $6,000, PER FAMILY, PER YEAR.

I think if you go with this, you're going to end up holding the bag for the majority of your birth costs - and likely the majority of your medical costs.

Read the small print first.   Call your better business bureau and ask about complaints, and find out which INSURANCE COMPANY a "policy" is with, and check them out, too.  Because ICANBENEFIT is NOT an insurance company.  So either their product is not insurance, or it's someone else's product.
