We are in the process of buying our first home. Our approval price is not very much, around $85,000 or less. We found a house that is $82,900 and we just put an offer in of $76,000 with $4,000 in closing cost help. Hopefully we get approved. Next week sometime we are having the inspection and hoping it won't be anything major. The house is small and cute, but it is only a two bedroom house. We we're looking for a three bedroom house because we are planning on having one more baby, we currently have one. We will also find out if we can expand in the back to make room for a third bedroom and maybe expand the bathroom and one of the bedrooms, since it is towards the back. We will not be doing this right away because we will need to save up money. My husband builds houses and works on them for a living, so we know that most of that won't be a problem and will be cheaper since we will be doing most of the labor. My question is, is it worth moving into a house that only has two bedrooms. I mean the house is tiny maybe about 700sq ft. It doesn't have much storage space at all, but has a good size front and back yard. We're hoping that we can extend the back a bit, but won't know until we get the inspection. Also another question I have is how much will $1000 CD be in lets say 9 months if it is a 3.50% rate? We we're going to buy a couple of them and than maybe in a year or two take them out and than start our remodeling. We're planning on staying there five to six years and than selling. We think we might be able to get a bit more out of it than we bought it for, especially if we extend the back of it. It was apraised recently and it is worth 120,000.

  1. It sounds like a decent deal if it goes through.

As for the CD.  It depends on whether it is 3.5% APR or APY.  In this case APR is better but they are probably advertising APY. (note the difference is less than $1 over a year for $1000)

For $1000 @ 3.5% APY you will earn $35 in one year (about $26 in 9 months like you asked)
