The day of the call, a lobbying firm partly owned by the adviser, Randy Scheunemann, signed a $200,000 contract to continue providing strategic advice to the Georgian government in Washington.

The McCain campaign said Georgia's lobbying contract with Orion Strategies had no bearing on the candidate's decision to speak with President Mikheil Saakashvili and did not influence his statement. "The Embassy of Georgia requested the call," said campaign spokesman Brian Rogers.

  1. Who cares about this lobbying c**p? There are plenty of good people out there lobbying for good causes. If you're so concerned about lobbyists why don't you question obama's serious lobbyist ties to the American Bar Association or Joe biden's lobbyist ties with the credit card companies. This is such a tired and pointless argument. There is nothing wrong with lobbying the government. It's all protected under the 1st amendment. Unless you disagree with freedom of speech get over yourself.

  2. The only thing I can't understand is how something like this doesn't just blow McCain's BS campaign right out of the water.  McCain passes himself off as the maverick and the reform candidate,  then "coincidences" like this happen.  And you can only play the "I was a POW, so there is no one who has suffered more for his country than I have" card when you get called on it.  But I have to hand it to McCain's campaign manager.  He still has the 'nad to have McCain question Obama's judgment.  Now we know what experience really means.

  3. McCain has never met a Lobbyist that he didn't like.  he has been lining his pockets with their money for nearly three decades.  One thing I do agree with him is when he says Washington is broke.  The problem is McCain is one of those that broke it.

  4. [Randy Scheunemann, signed a $200,000 contract to continue providing strategic advice to the Georgian government in Washington.]

For $150,000 I would have advised them NOT to attack Russian troops.

I could have saved them 50 grand up front and their entire military infrastructure in the end.

  5. does anyone else think it's funny how after Keating 5 McCain magically became a crusader against lobbyists?

it's like making Larry Flint the "anti-p**n czar"...
