Is it illegal to drive without windshield wipers in Washington state?

If so, what is the punishment? is it a fix-it ticket?

  1. It is illegal.

    It would be a moving violation ticket. (You are driving without the required safety equipment.  Like a seat belt)

    Though I bet the officer would not be so harsh. It would be up to them really.

    All  vehicles must be equipped with a device for cleaning rain, snow, or other moisture from the windshield capable of cleaning the windshield over two separate arcs, one each on the left and right side of the windshield.  Wipers must be maintained in good working order.

  2. Unless you receive a ticket due to an accident caused by missing or faulty windsheild wipers, it's more than likely a fix-it ticket.

    And yes, it's illegal.  Every state requires windsheild wipers.  It's essential to safety of you and other drivers.

    RainX is not recognized by the Federal government as a safety device, otherwise every car would be equiped with some.  You'll still get a ticket without working windsheild wipers.
