Is this illigal in football???

if the quarterback throws the ball and it bounces off an offensive player. can anotehr recevier catch it?

  1. no it is not illegal. as long as the ball does not hit the ground-therefore and offensive or defensive player could catch it


  2. Yes. In the early 70s this was illegal. The rules have since changed. This is what the immaculate reception was about. It occurred on Dec 23 1972 and if the pass did hit Jon Frenchy Fuqua it would have been a dead play. That is the controversy.  

  3. Receivers can catch the ball no matter what. Once the ball touches someone who is eligible to catch the ball (tight ends, receivers, backs, and the entire defense), anyone can be the player to finally catch it.

    If the ball touches an offensive lineman that is not an eligible receiver, another offensive player can catch it, but the play will not count because a penalty will be called for illegal touching.
