  1. Unless it's like a friend, I would generally stay away from that question.

  2. It is inappropriate to ask your teacher, boss, etc any personal question.

  3. My husband is a teacher and I am a substitute teacher.  If a student randomly walks up to me in the hall and asks "Where are you going?" I will either give a quick, straightforward and simple answer or tell them that it is not their business.

Teachers have a need to keep their students at a bit of a distance to help them maintain their professional status, or some teens immediately start thinking of them as more of a friend than an instructor, an adult.  Not all teens assume this, but it's far more common than you might think.  They don't ask you where you go and what you do after school...they expect students to treat them with that same respect.

While it was not rude of you to ask this simple question, you should be ready to not get answers when it is not related to learning (even outside of the classroom).

  4. To a teacher yes, it is impolite.  For a close friend it should not be.

  5. it depends on how close you are to your teacher, if its a teacher you never talk to about anything other than class, then yeah, but if you talk to them more than that, its fine

  6. Yes, that's too personal a question to ask your instructor.

  7. Maybe not impolite but annoying. I hate it when anyone asks me this question unless they are paying my bills is non of their business.

  8. definitely impolite. questioning elders is very inappropriate in public.
