Is this irony in Frankenstein?

When the monster says "here then I retreated, and lay down, happy to have found a shelter, however miserable, from the inclemency of the season, and still more from the barbarity of man"?

Is it ironic that a monster is calling man barbaric, when man may think the same about the monster?

  1. It is, as the monster labels man as barbaric and cruel when the monster himself develops into what he has labeled man later on in the story.  However, it is through the cruelty the monster receives from man that turns the monster into an malicious creature.
